Do yall know Liz Curtis Higgs?
I learned about Liz from reading the Women of Christmas book a few years ago (SO good, and would highly recommend it!)
On Saturday, I saw Liz speak at Joy FM’s Unspeakable Joy event, and it was GOOD, y’all.
Liz shared the Mary and Martha story in Luke… Mary chose to sit at Jesus’s feet while Martha was go, go, go. Liz explained that we must “choose what is better”… we must pay attention to what lasts—God and His word. Although they are good things, a clean home and the perfect meal are not eternal.
Liz also reminded us that Jesus wants us to “come to Him and count on Him”. For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. (Psalm 33:4) I know that at times I tend to seek answers more from those around me than from the Lord. Those around us are resources and sources of knowledge, yes. But when we turn to them before we turn to the Lord, something has got to change. Let’s choose to turn to Him first in all we face.
Then, Liz preached that “God is not limited by our limitations”. He is powerful, y’all! Let’s trade our small thinking for God sized dreams. The Lord gave us an imagination to use. Don’t hide behind fear. Let God be your foundation and your strength. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. (Proverbs 31:25)
And what is especially amazing, is that Lizzie’s joy and love for the Lord is so evident, despite battling cancer. It was such a powerful reminder that through God, we can find rest, and hope, and joy. Be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead (1 Peter 1:6). (And as a side note, HighRoad led us in amazing worship… a highlight was their song I’ll Fly Away.)
Thank you God, Lizzie, and JoyFM for such a sweet and encouraging Saturday.
